2025 buttery stats
"Manteiga" is the Portuguese translation for butter; and as you might know, butter is the most loved and hated cooking ingredient - between crazy diets and French pastry chefs, one might find very controversial opinions about this simple, delicious ingredient. However, the absolute truth is that butter is incredibly versatile: frying eggs? Butter. Baking brownies? Butter. Brigadeiro? Use some butter. What about some creamy soup? Add butter!
This blog has been a food-focused outlet for me, even with the very little usage in the last 5 years. When I started thinking about returning to creative writing, I could not shake out the idea of adding a new layer to this space: books!
Those who know me personally are very aware of how much I love reading, and it is truly my biggest (and most stable) hobby. Through the years I started sending book recommendations to friends, family, and even to people I was just meeting for the first time. No, I don't want to start a book club; I already read too many things at the same time - plus, I am part of a book club at work, so this is not going to be a club. In reality, I still don't know what to expect from this. My idea: sharing books, opinions and maybe sprinkling some sugar on top.
This is not a "welcome back" post, as I think I probably have a handful of those. This is just a sparkle of hope that I will make my way back to the habit of writing in 2026.
In 2025, I (incredibly) read 75 books - compared to 69 in 2024 and who knows how many the years prior (I didn't have a Goodreads account before mid 2023). I was thinking if I should share these stats here (and on other social media accounts), as these can cause a lot of comparison. At the same time, yes, I am very proud of myself and all the hours I've spent reading in the past year. One of my closest friends shared with me that when she saw my Goodreads retrospective, she felt: 1. envy (or jealousy?); 2. bad for herself (for not reaching such a number); 3. the conclusion that it is amazing to have a friend that reads so much and can send so many recommendations her way. I hope everyone could get to the same conclusion - and equally important to keep in mind that this was not me building the habit of reading, this is my stats 5 years into a very reading-focus lifestyle. The truth? In 2020, I read 2, maybe 3 books. In 2021, I believe I read between 10 and 15 books. Brasilia wasn't built in a day (took nearly 5 years). Reading is no longer a "goal" or a habit to track - it is part of my life. Now, writing will be a goal for the new year, and that is why I am here, sitting at my desk on December 30th, 2025, writing this post.
